Now Available | Summer 2021 Trial:
Respondus Automated Proctoring

New Paltz is now piloting two new tools to help deter academic integrity issues in online testing.  The tools are Respondus LockDown Browser and Respondus Monitor.  LockDown Browser (LDB) is a specialized browser that students use when taking tests in Blackboard that prevents them from navigating away from the exam, while Respondus Monitor is an optional add-on that will record students while they take the exam and flag any errant behavior.  These services are being offered at no extra expense for students.

Pilot Parameters

The Respondus tools are now available in Blackboard!  Since we are in the pilot phase, these tools may only be available until 06/30/2021.
We hope to continue with the tools for a full year contract (until 07/31/2022), but we are still completing the contract with Respondus.  If your summer class(es) run beyond 06/30/2021, keep in mind that you may need to make alternate testing plans past this point if the contract has not been completed.

3 Ways to Get Respondus Training

  1. If you need a little extra help getting started with Respondus, we will be holding a Respondus drop-in session on Thursday, May 27th from 2:30pm - 4:00pm.  Use the link to stop by and ask a question or get assistance from Office of Instructional Technology staff.

  2. On June 1st at 1:00pm Respondus will be holding a Getting Started with Respondus Training for New Paltz Faculty and Staff.  Use this link to register for the session: register for Getting Started with Respondus Training

  3. Respondus also offers open training for instructors (not New Paltz specific), so if you are interested in using the tool or just want to learn more about how the system works, you can register for one of Respondus' upcoming training sessions.
