Celebrate CG as a Transformative Animation tool

The Computer Animation Festival celebrates computer graphics as a medium for storytelling in animation, visual effects, games, and more. Since 1999, the Computer Animation Festival has been recognized as a qualifying festival by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and several works that were originally presented in this program have received Best Animated Short Academy Awards.

Hundreds of short films are submitted to this prestigious program each year. An internationally recognized jury reviews and presents the best work of the year, with awards for Best in Show, Jury’s Choice, and Best Student Project.

Join us for one special screening and awards presentation on Monday, 29 July, at Microsoft Theater at L.A. Live. Monday Night @ Live continues in Xbox Plaza with the SIGGRAPH 2019 reception, directly following the Electronic Theater screening.

DescriptionDescending into a prehistoric hot spring reveals primitive bacteria, which use an early form of photosynthesis to turn sunlight into chemical energy in structures called chromatophores. This full-dome animation follows the energy through progressively more stable forms: a captured photon; electronic excitation; pumped protons; and finally, synthesis of ATP molecules.
