Stockton Rolls to 89-70 Win in Regular Season Finale

Jersey City, N.J. – Stockton University (21-4, 15-3 NJAC) capped the regular season in style as the Ospreys rolled to an 89-70 victory over New Jersey City (11-14, 8-10 NJAC). Stockton finished the season in sole possession of first place in the conference.
 
The Ospreys also ended the regular season ranked first in Region IV by the NCAA, and their 21 wins are already the most since 2015-16 and most in Scott Bittner's six seasons as head coach.
 
DJ Campbell (Vineland/Vineland) led a quartet of Ospreys in double figures with a team-high 21 points plus a game-high eight rebounds. Campbell went 4-9 (44.4%) from three-point range. Kyion Flanders (Wildwood/Wildwood) contributed 14 points in the win.
 
Kadian Dawkins (Eastampton/Rancocas Valley and Rynell Lawrence (Millville/Millville) also hit double figures with 13 and 12 points respectively. Lawrence shot 4-5 from the floor including 2-2 from beyond the arc while Dawkins was 3-4 from the field and 7-8 at the line.
 
Stockton shot 53.3 percent from the field overall (32-60), including 9-21 (42.9%) from three-point land. The Ospreys led for 38:02 of the game's 40 minutes and 11 players cracked the scoring column.
 
Flanders and Campbell both sank early three-pointers as Stockton broke out to a 9-2 lead. Lawrence and Campbell later drained treys in the final minute of the high-scoring first half for a 49-40 count at the break.
 
Another three-pointer by Campbell less than two minutes into the second half increased the advantage to double figures at 54-42. A 7-2 spurt by NJCU closed the gap to seven at 56-49, but Stockton regrouped with a timeout and took over from there.
 
A four-point play by Campbell was the key blow during a 14-2 outburst that put the game out of reach at 70-51 with 11:22 remaining. Campbell scored eight points during the run while Flanders chipped in with four points and two assists.
 
Stockton led by at least 16 points the rest of the way and emptied the bench in the closing minutes, with 15 players seeing action in the 89-70 triumph.
 
Denzel Banks scored a game-high 23 points for the Gothic Knights and Jason Battle added 10 markers.
 
Stockton enters the NJAC Tournament as the No. 1 seed, and the Ospreys will have home-court advantage throughout. Stockton will begin by hosting the winner of the 8/9 game on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the quarterfinal round.
