Stockton Uses Strong Start to Down Rutgers-Newark 67-54

Newark, N.J. – Stockton University (11-10, 6-8 NJAC) broke out to a 22-7 lead and went on to a 67-54 victory over Rutgers-Newark (3-18, 1-13). The win was Stockton's third in the last four games and equaled last year's total for the entire season.

Adriyana Jennings (Camden/Winslow Twp.) paced the Ospreys with another outstanding performance as she recorded her 11th double-double of the season. Jennings scored a game-high 14 points and grabbed a career-high 18 rebounds to lead Stockton to a 52-32 advantage on the glass.

Emma Morrone (Maywood/Hackensack) netted 12 points, dished a career-high eight assists and swiped four steals. Madison LaRosa (Oceanport/Shore Regional) sank three three-pointers and finished with 11 points. Ionyonia Alves (Mays Landing/Oakcrest) contributed season highs of seven points, six rebounds and four blocks.

Morrone scored seven points and LaRosa added five to spark Stockton to a 17-7 advantage at the end of the first quarter. The lead reached 22-7 on a layup by Alves four minutes into the second frame. Rutgers-Newark closed the gap to eight but LaRosa hit a three-pointer in the final seconds for a 31-20 lead at break.

The Ospreys led by double figures for most of the third quarter before settling for a 49-40 margin entering the fourth stanza. Rutgers-Newark never seriously threatened in the final period as Stockton remained in front by seven or more throughout on the way to the 67-54 triumph.

Sanaa Brodie scored a game-high 17 points for the Scarlet Raiders. Samiyah Horton and Aliyah Sanchez tallied 11 and 10 points respectively.

After three straight road games, Stockton begins a three-game homestand by hosting Montclair State on Saturday at 3 p.m.
