Join us for January’s First Friday showing with Nicholas Cockrell. Nicholas created Untitled Series Vol. 1: Depression during the ending days of Fall 2021, when he painted out his depression, which manifested itself differently with each new day. Intentionally using a variety of painting techniques—impasto, layers, filbert blending, palette knife strokes, and more—helped him to work through the depressive episodes, as each piece needed to reveal a different experience. Nicholas hopes this project serves two-fold purposes. On one hand, it is a record of what he walked through, a testimony to past seasons. On the other hand, these pieces serve as a connecting point with people struggling with depression. In Nicholas's own words, "My prayer is for you to resonate with a piece in such a way you find solace and reprieve; you are not alone."
