Union, N.J. – Stockton University (1-2) produced its first win of the short season with a 1-0 win on the road at Kean University (0-1).
Michael Echeverria (Linden/St. Joseph) lifted the Ospreys to victory by scoring the game-winning goal with just 5:54 remaining in the second half.
Kean outshot the Ospreys by a slim 16-14 margin overall and 5-3 in shots on goal. Stockton goalkeeper
Dino Gromitsaris (Bordentown/Bordentown) earned the shutout with five saves.
Gromitsaris made all five of his saves while the game was scoreless. In the 85th minute, Echeverria struck for the game-winner, his first goal of the season, with an assist by
Ervin Gjeli (Hasbrouck Hts./Hasbrouck Hts.) for the 1-0 victory.
After firing two shots on goal in the first 10 minutes, Stockton went over 70 minutes without an attempt on target before Echeverria broke through for the game-winner that brought the Ospreys into the win column for the first time this season.
Kean goalie Luis Rivera finished with two saves for the Cougars, who were playing their first game of the season.
Stockton returns home to host Rutgers-Camden on Saturday at 4 p.m.
