Schuylkill Haven, Pa. – Stockton University (1-0) got the second season under head coach
Devin Jefferson off to an outstanding start with a 93-48 victory over Penn State Schuylkill (0-4) in the opener. All 10 Ospreys who played in the game scored points and five reached double figures.
Lajerah Wright (Atlantic City/Atlantic City) led Stockton with a career-high 22 points followed by
Emily Donzanti (Toms River/TR South) with 13 points, eight assists and six rebounds.
After missing all of last season due to injury,
Hailee Porricelli (Howell/Freehold Twp.) made a strong return with 13 points. Porricelli shot 4-6 from three-point range.
Freshman
Brittina Bulli (Hackensack/Hackensack) scored 12 points in her first college game and juco transfer
Chyna Wooten (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) tossed in 10 markers in her first game for Stockton.
Sophomore
Kiley Gelston (Washington Twp./Washington Twp.) chipped in with career highs of nine points, 10 rebounds and four steals. Stockton shot 52.9 percent from the floor including 9-22 (40.9%) from beyond the arc.
After building a 22-14 lead after the first quarter, the Ospreys blew the game open with a 22-5 second period for a commanding 44-19 advantage at halftime. Bulli led the way with seven points on 3-3 shooting in the second stanza.
The onslaught continued as Stockton outscored the Lions 28-9 in the third quarter on the strength of torrid 64.7 percent (11-17) shooting from the field. Porricelli went a perfect 3-3 from three-point range for nine points in the period.
The Ospreys led 72-28 after three and cruised to the 93-48 victory. They forced 25 turnovers and converted them into 30 points on the night. Stockton also outrebounded the home team 47-30.
Stockton will host the Stockton Tip-Off Tournament on November 16-17. The first-round pairings on Saturday are Stockton vs. CCNY at 6 p.m. followed by Cabrini vs. Pitt-Greensburg at 8 p.m.
