Stockton Posts Second Straight Shutout with 5-0 Win

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (9-2-2, 2-1-1 NJAC) posted their second consecutive shutout, with a dominant 5-0 victory over St. Joseph's-Long Island (2-9) on Wednesday night. Five different Ospreys hit the net with one of the markers coming from James McCombs (Brick/Brick Memorial), scoring his first career goal.

John Maxted (Middletown/Middletown North) opened the scoring with his sixth marker of the year and third in the last two games, for a 1-0 lead. His tap in off a Max Bond (Cherry Hill/Cherry Hill West) pass in front put the Ospreys on the board.

Just over two minutes later, McCombs blasted a shot from just outside the box for a 2-0 margin. His left footed volley deflected off a St. Joe's defender and into the net for his first career tally. Dante Montesinos (West Long Branch/Shore Regional) got loose on a breakaway and scored his first goal of the year in the 39th minute to give Stockton a three-goal advantage.

Bobby Riordan ended the first half, scoring less than three minutes after Montesinos' goal for his second goal of the season. Riordan pounced on a loose ball in front of the net and flipped the shot over the goalkeeper's head for the 4-0 lead at the break.

Ervin Gjeli (Hasbrouck Hts./Hasbrouck Hts.) ended the scoring in the 73rd minute when he scored his sixth goal of the year off a defensive lapse in front. The teams finished out the rest of the game substituting freely and Stockton came away with the 5-0 victory. Stockton held a massive 22-3 advantage on shots for the evening, with 16 being on net.

Stockton goalkeeper Travis Yates (Washington Twp./Washington Twp.) started the contest and picked up his first win of the year, without having to make a stop. Yates played the first half before giving way to Michael Lescano (Union/St. Benedict's Prep). Lescano made two saves in the final 45 minutes of play.

Tyler Flaherty started in net for St. Joe's making seven saves in playing the first half. Aydin Olgun made four saves in the second half.

Stockton will return to NJAC play, when the Ospreys will travel to Wayne, NJ for their next game against William Paterson. The game is set for Saturday afternoon at 1pm.
