Stockton Extends Win Streak with 3-0 Victory Over Rutgers Newark

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (18-2, 4-0 NJAC) continued their winning ways, as the Ospreys rolled to a 3-0 (25-9, 25-11, 25-13) victory over Rutgers Newark (11-8, 1-3 NJAC) on Tuesday night.  Sarah Walsh (Flemington/Hunterdon Central) and Charlotte Leon (Northport, NY/Northport) led the Ospreys with 12 and 10 kills respectively.

Stockton began strong jumping out to a 13-6 lead forcing the Scarlet Raiders into a timeout. The Ospreys kept up the pressure with a 6-2 run to make it 19-8 before finishing the set, 25-9 in a crisp 17 minutes. Leon spiked four kills with Walsh, Franceska Gustave (Edgewater/Leonia) and Julie Kohlhoff (West Islip, NY/West Islip) getting three kills each.

The second set was more of the same as Christie Louer (Clifton/Clifton) served the first four points to get the squad started. Five more points with Natalie Miller (Pittsburgh, PA/Thomas) serving made it 9-1 and the rout was on. Stockton took the second set 25-11 with Walsh getting six more kills and Kohlhoff four spikes.

The final set became academic with every available Osprey seeing time. Louer continued her outstanding night serving, as Stockton ran out to a 6-2 lead, with the junior serving two aces in the run. The Ospreys closed out the match with a 25-13 final set victory.

Louer led the team with 10 digs and five aces on the night, with Emily Sullivan (Bridgewater/Bridgewater-Raritan) dishing a game-high 32 assists and scooping nine digs. Ionyonia Alves (Mays Landing/Oakcrest) topped the Ospreys with a pair of blocks, while teammate Sophia Marziello (Haddonfield/Paul VI) served four aces.

Stockton was outstanding all evening at the net, as evidenced by a .564 hitting percentage as a team and serving 13 aces on the night. The win also extended the Ospreys winning streak to 11 straight matches.

Stockton will travel to Salisbury, MD for a tri-match on Saturday. The Ospreys will face Christopher Newport at 1pm, then will take on host Salisbury at 3pm. Christopher Newport is on the others receiving votes list according to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (ACVA) poll, as is Stockton.
