Stockton Roars Past Lions

Ewing, NJ – Stockton University (15-8, 11-5 NJAC) used a strong first half and downed The College of New Jersey (16-7, 10-6 NJAC) on Wednesday night. EJ Matthews-Spratley (Cherry Hill/Cherry Hill East) topped all players with a game-high 25 points.
 
Stockton exploded in the first half shooting 56.2% (18-32) to take a 20-point lead at the break at 52-32. The run started with the score tied at 13-13 at the 15:24 mark, when the Ospreys finished off the rest of the period, outscoring TCNJ 39-19 to forge the advantage at the break. Stockton ripped off the last 15 points of the half in a span of 4:10.
 
The visitors kept up the pace in the second half, pushing the margin to as many as 26 points at 73-47 with 12:37 left to play. The Lions made one final push, closing the gap to 82-73 with 3:33 remaining but could get no closer as Stockton came away with the 90-77 victory, shooting 51.7% (30-58) for the game from the field.
 
Matthews-Spratley was efficient in his scoring, hitting 11-13 (84.6%) on the evening and added seven rebounds with a pair of steals. DJ Campbell (Vineland/Vineland) added 20 points, including 15 in the first half, with three steals and seven boards.
 
Tayvon Gaither (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) rounded out the trio of double-digit scorers with 18 markers, with teammate Christian Armstrong-Thomas (Marlton/Cherokee) topping the team with eight rebounds to go with eight points.
 
TCNJ was led by Nick Koch with 23 points and James Beckwith with 20 markers. Jack Vreeswyk chipped in with 13 points. Matthew Okorie and Matthew Solomon pulled down 14 and 13 rebounds, respectively.
 
Stockton will have another road tilt on Saturday when the Ospreys travel to Jersey City to face New Jersey City. Game time is set for 3 pm.
