Galloway, NJ – Stockton University freshman
Brendan Doherty (Middletown/Middletown North) was chosen for all-conference recognition as an NJAC Honorable Mention player. He was named NJAC Rookie of the Week once during the season, earlier this year on February 25.
In his first college season, the freshman led the team in batting (.360), hits (40), slugging percentage (.459), on-base percentage (.426) and stolen bases (12). In addition, Doherty was second on the team in runs scored (25) and added four doubles, one triple, his first career home run and 19 RBI.
Doherty registered multiple hits in a team-high 12 of Stockton's 32 games, highlighted by a four-hit outing against Rutgers-Camden on April 23. He smashed his home run in his first collegiate game, against Centenary on February 23. His rookie year also included a team-best reached base streak of 17 consecutive games.
Doherty was just as consistent in NJAC play, batting .362 with 21 hits, both team highs. The lefty batter tore up right-handed pitching all season, hitting .435 against righties in league play. Doherty started all 32 games for the Ospreys and made just one error in 48 chances in the outfield for a .979 fielding percentage.
