President, Coppin State University

Coppin State University President Dr. Anthony L. Jenkins said he is driven by a passion to expand access to quality education to everyone.

“I truly believe that education is a game changer because I have seen it throughout my 20-plus years in higher education,” Jenkins wrote. “Moreover, as a first-generation college graduate, I have benefitted from personal and
professional mentoring, cultural
exposure and an HBCU education that prepared me for life.”

Jenkins credits his mother, who raised him mostly on her own. “She instilled that our current position in life did not dictate the outcome of our lives,” he wrote. “She is the single most influential reason I am here today.”

He has served on the president’s advisory council for the Greater Baltimore Committee and volunteered with Hippodrome Foundation, the
Baltimore Chapter of My Brother’s Keeper, Health care Access Maryland, Maryland Zoological Society and the Boy Scouts of America, Baltimore Area Council.

The Washington native and U.S. Army veteran earned his bachelor’s degree from Fayetteville State University, his master’s degree from North Carolina Central University and his doctorate  from Virginia Tech.

“As president of Coppin State
University, I leverage my position, and use my example, in ways that cultivate environments and shape experiences that empower people to excel beyond their own expectations,” he wrote.

“Despite my busy schedule, I find value in mentoring students, peers, and colleagues. Helping others achieve their goals is a tremendous responsibility and gift – one I fully accept,” he added.
