McCracken’s Positive Impact Extends Beyond Basketball

By Dave Weinberg

Stockton University women's basketball player Maddie McCracken (Wildwood/Wildwood) hopes to make an impact on and off the court this season.

The 5-foot-8 sophomore guard is slated to play a major role for the Ospreys this season. And the North Wildwood native plans on continuing to help serve local communities through the Step Back Foundation.

"As long as we have a season, we're going to make the most of it," McCracken said.

McCracken is in her second season at Stockton after transferring from Widener University midway through last season. She played in 14 games for the Ospreys last year, averaging 6.6 points and 3.6 rebounds per game.

McCracken started both of Stockton’s games against The College of New Jersey last weekend and tied for the team lead at 7.5 rebounds per game. She also averaged 32.5 minutes, 4.5 points and 2.0 steals for the Ospreys.

She was a three-sport standout (soccer, basketball, track and field) for Wildwood High School. She finished her high school basketball career as the school's second-leading scorer with 2,001 points.

During her senior year at Wildwood in 2019, she created the Step Back Foundation as a way to help students throughout South Jersey. Last fall, it donated 10 backpacks to needy students at Middle Township High School. Most recently, they provided Christmas gifts such as hats, blankets, toys and Acme gift cards to Cape May County schools.

Next up is a project involving her Stockton teammates. With their help, she is hoping to donate children's books to Atlantic City elementary schools. "I asked them to try and get a copy of their favorite children's book," McCracken said. "We're all going to autograph them."
