Information Technology Services makes organizational changes to better serve campus community

The following announcement was shared with faculty and staff via email on July 7.


I want to inform you of some recent decisions regarding organizational change within Information Technology Services.

Our department experienced a significant number of retirements over the past 15 months during the COVID-19 pandemic including three directors: Harriet Lettis from Administrative Computing, Ian Erne from Academic Computing/Desktop Support, and Emily Trapp from Instructional Media Services (IMS).

Recruitment and hiring during the pandemic period and while under a state mandate to manage hiring and expenses proved to be challenging. As a result, I began to explore a range of options to address the staffing and operational needs of IT.

 

Administrative Computing

Lucy Walker has been appointed the Interim Director of Administrative Computing for a period of two years.

This period of time allows us to more effectively address institutional research needs and priorities which often have an intersection with IT. It will also allow us time to examine the future needs of Administrative Computing and develop a sound recruitment strategy for the expertise and experience we will need for growth in this area.

I will be reporting my assessment of this strategy to Vice President Halstead and President Christian at intervals throughout the next academic year. Outcomes of that assessment and impacts on this two-year strategy will be communicated to IT as appropriate.

Lucy is not a stranger to Information Technology Services: she has served in multiple roles during her time here at the College. Lucy will retain her current responsibilities as AVP of Institutional Research.

 

Academic Computing/Desktop Support/IMS

In August 2020, several changes were made to the Academic Computing/Desktop Support department:

Kevin Saunders was promoted to Associate Director of Academic Computing/Desktop Support

Raymond Ransome was promoted to Desktop Support Manager

Bob Trahan was promoted to Academic Computing Support Manager

Since then, Kevin has been successfully meeting the needs of faculty and staff. With the retirement of Emily Trapp from IMS this past October and after consultation with Kevin and HRDI, I decided to combine the teams under Kevin’s leadership. This combined team will be named End User Services and is made up of Academic Computing, Desktop Support, IMS, and the IT Service Desk.

End User Services and Support is now responsible for all end user-based technology across campus regardless of the location (office, classroom, or lab) and I am optimistic that this organizational change will create additional growth opportunities for our staff and better serve the college community.
