Help and hope for families and friends of alcoholics
About us
Al-Anon Family Group's purpose is to provide help and hope to families and friends of alcoholics. The Al-Anon Family Groups, which include Alateen for teenagers, provide support and encouragement to anyone affected by someone else's drinking. There are no dues or fees for membership. Attendance of Alateen is limited to teenagers and the adult Al-Anon members who are certified as Alateen Group Sponsors. Individuals referred to Al-Anon and Alateen groups benefit from contact with their peers who have similar experiences and are applying the Al-Anon program to their daily lives. They learn the facts about a relative or friend's addiction to alcohol and how it affects all who are close to the drinker as well as the drinker. Al-Anon and Alateen groups meet locally in over 118 countries. There are also electronic meetings (via email, telephone, and social media). Information about Al-Anon Family Groups is available in English, Spanish, and French on our website. Note: 1. “Al-Anon Family Group’s literature and the principles discussed in Al-Anon meetings have helped me build a life for myself that is more positive and happier. Today, I am able to love people without trying to change them.” ~ Anonymous Al-Anon Member 2021 Al-Anon Membership Survey #AlAnonMembershipSurvey #AlAnon #Alateen #HowAlAnonWorks #FamilyRecovery #FamilyDisease #alcoholism #addiction #12Step #AA

“I started to go to Al-Anon Family Groups because I had nowhere else to go. I thought I tried everything to get my husband to stop drinking. Al-Anon helped me to see it is not my job to fix my husband. I can only fix myself and in fixing myself, I can positively influence my family.” ~ Anonymous Al-Anon Member 2021 Al-Anon Membership Survey #AlAnonMembershipSurvey #AlAnon #Alateen #HowAlAnonWorks #FamilyRecovery #FamilyDisease #alcoholism #addiction #12Step #AA

“Al-Anon Family Groups has helped me become kinder to myself and others, to keep the focus on me, not the alcoholic or problems in general. I've become better at detaching with love. I use the tools of the program in many different situations: Steps, slogans, and the Serenity Prayer. I continue to need the help of the program and the experience, strength, and hope of other members but I am definitely much healthier than when I first came to the program. I will continue to come to meetings even if my loved one finds sobriety. Thank you, Al-Anon.” ~ Anonymous Al-Anon Member 2021 Al-Anon Membership Survey #AlAnonMembershipSurvey #AlAnon #Alateen #HowAlAnonWorks #FamilyRecovery #FamilyDisease #alcoholism #addiction #12Step #AA

Participation in Al-Anon meetings can have profound effects on a person’s mental health and improve their quality of life. In the 2024 Al-Anon Family Groups Membership Survey, participants were asked to rank their mental health on scale of one to seven. A deeper dive into the topic of mental health revealed that: 🔹 80% of members surveyed reported improvement in their mental health within the first year. 🔹 91% of members with four or more years of Al-Anon involvement indicate improved mental health, with about three out of five indicating significant improvement. 🔹 Nearly 97% of those surveyed indicated they attend at least one meeting per week. Results showed that when members attended more than one meeting per week, they rated a 17% higher improvement in their mental health score than those who attended only once per week. If you work with people who have been affected by someone else’s alcohol abuse or misuse and would like to know more about Al-Anon before referring them to the program, please consider visiting a physical or virtual meeting marked as “Families, Friends, and Observers Welcome.” 🔹 https://bit.ly/3tZyLK9 For teenagers affected by someone’s drinking, we offer Alateen meetings. “I can’t even begin to express the relief and the unexpected support that I received attending Al-Anon Family Group meetings years ago. The relief of the isolation and the feeling of being loved in spite of my faults, unconditionally has provided me with tools and hope through every storm.” ~ Anonymous Al-Anon Member 2021 Al-Anon Membership Survey #AlAnonMembershipSurvey #AlAnon #Alateen #HowAlAnonWorks #FamilyRecovery #FamilyDisease #alcoholism #addiction #12Step #AA

“I know it's scary coming to your first Al-Anon meeting, it was for me. I found that everyone knew exactly how I was feeling because they had been through similar situations themselves. If you only take one thing from your first meeting it's this – remember, ‘One Day at a Time.’ So, take care of yourself and call if you need to talk. It will get better. Keep coming back!” ~ Anonymous Al-Anon Member 2021 Al-Anon Membership Survey #AlAnonMembershipSurvey #AlAnon #Alateen #HowAlAnonWorks #FamilyRecovery #FamilyDisease #alcoholism #addiction #12Step #AA
