There’s a decent chance you may not be too familiar with Reid Haughton yet, but I think that’s about to change for a lot of people now that his latest album is out there.

Released almost a year to the day after his self-titled debut record Reid Haughton hit streaming platforms in May 2023, the Haleyville, Alabama native and Nashville-based up and comer’s sophomore project Higher Than 9 builds upon the foundation he laid for his catalog last year. In the new project, Haughton brings a swampy, southern rock inspired sound to the table that puts his twangy vocals, sonic creativity, and impressive songwriting prowess on full display.

After having dropped three singles over the past few months to build anticipation for the record, including the project’s lead single “Man Made Money” back in January, followed by a cover of The Charlie Daniels Band’s “Long Haired Country Boy” the next month, and finally “Flicker” at the beginning of April, all of which enjoyed strong reception from the fans and media alike, Higher Than 9 features six additional brand new tracks that dive into a handful of different topics and showcase his band’s diverse sound.

In a press release circulated by his team at River House Artists, Haughton provided some brief insight into how this project came together.

“All of the songs on ‘Higher Than 9’ reflect my journey, heavily influenced by experiences on the road and built for live performances.

I think there is something for everyone on this record, ranging from barn burners to love songs. We pored our hearts into these tunes and hope they bring you as much joy as they do us.”

Despite being fairly new on the scene, Haughton was able to employ the talents of some pretty amazing artists on this record, with a co-writing list that features the likes of Adam Hood, Kendall Marvell, Faren Rachels, among several others. He was also able to team back up with Sadler Vaden, the legendary guitarist for Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit and up and coming producer who produced Haughton’s first album, as well recent records by Morgan Wade, Drayton Farley, and Jonathan Peyton.

All in all, Higher Than 9 is an awesome record with an impressive sound and clever lyricism, putting Reid Haughton in position for a breakthough year in 2024.

Check out Haughton’s tour dates, too. He’s hitting the road with Whiskey Myers and 49 Winchester this summer, and I’m sure there are some headlining dates that’ll be announced soon in support of the new album.
