Online Learning Resources

Keeping Your Assignments Organized

All assignments and resources will be available in CORE before the beginning of each class meeting. Class "Topics" pages provide detailed information on students' synchronous and asynchronous work tasks, in addition to links and downloads to class resources. Assignments will also be shown in the CORE "Assignment Center." Check the class "Topics" pages and "Assignment Center" every day. Use the "to-do list" templates below to help you organize and prioritize your work.

Expectations for Students

  • Complete your academic work daily with your highest level of effort.
  • Maintain the highest level of academic integrity by following the SAS Honor Code. Write the full Academic Pledge on all graded work: “I pledge that I will neither give nor receive any unauthorized information on this work.”
  • When researching or using an outside source for information, give credit to the author in order to avoid plagiarism.
  • Communicate regularly with your teachers and advisor through email or video conference, especially if you are having any difficulty or need extra support.
  • Attend all synchronous class meetings. Zoom links are found on the class Bulletin Board. During Zoom meetings, use your actual name for your screen name. Do not share Zoom links with individuals who are not in your class. Do not share images or recordings of class meetings with others.
  • During Zoom meetings, dress appropriately (modesty rules apply) and make sure you are in a quiet, but visible and professional, location in your home. You may not video conference from your bed.
  • Our synchronous learning time is intentionally short. Students are expected to turn their cameras on during synchronous learning time. This helps teachers maintain connection and community and to gauge understanding. Students may use school appropriate virtual backgrounds if they are uncomfortable allowing their surroundings to be visible. If the internet connection is unstable, students may request to turn their camera off but will be asked to show engagement in an alternative way. In breakout sessions, which are used for collaboration and discussion, students must turn on their camera. You have the ability to hide yourself in your own video display while still appearing to others. This may ease anxiety and allow you to focus more on the class. Click here for instructions.
  • If you experience connection issues during Zoom, be persistent and try to get back into the Zoom session. If that fails, email the teacher immediately to explain the problem.
  • Be an active and positive participant in class discussions.
  • Use respectful language when participating in online discussions or creating a post.
  • Check the class Topics page daily for a list of the work tasks to be completed as well as links and downloads to class resources that are needed.
  • Check the Assignment Center daily for work that is due. Submit them in CORE according to your teacher’s instructions fully completed and on time.
  • Reach out to your teacher via email immediately if you have questions about an assignment or about the content.

Online Learning Tips for Students

  • Create your workspace. Choose a well-lit, quiet area with a desk or table and a comfortable chair.
  • Organize your materials. Make sure you have a good supply of paper, pens, pencils, highlighters, etc. stored in the desk drawer or in a small storage bin. Put away all distractions.
  • Charge your computer daily.
  • Keep a daily routine by following the SAS online school schedule.
  • Print the online school schedule and post it so that you can always see it.
  • Make a to-do list for each day and make sure your to-do list includes all of the academic tasks for the day, as well as creative and physical activities, household tasks, and things just for fun.
  • If you have technical difficulties or need help with tech tools, email Educational Technology Coordinator Dr. Viva Reynolds.

Learning Support is Just a Click Away

Would you like assistance with general study skills or writing support during our new Online Learning model? If so, please email Mrs. Perkins for general academic support or Ms. Randolph for specific writing support during office hours to schedule an appointment.

Tips for Parents

  • Make sure your child has a designated learning space in a well-lit area with a desk or table, comfortable chair, plenty of school supplies, and access to a charged device.
  • Help your child follow the SAS online school schedule. Post the schedule in a highly visible place in the house.
  • Encourage (and help, if needed) your child to create a daily to-do list, and monitor that tasks are being completed. Check the Assignment Center in CORE to help your child prioritize work or plan for larger assignments, if needed.
  • Encourage your child to communicate regularly with teachers, advisors, and other support people as needed, and please communicate any of your questions or concerns as well.
