It wasn’t long into the pandemic that Jenny O. released New Truth, an album-length personal statement about hearing loss and failed relationships undergirded by a disdain for performative social conventions. In the time since that record’s release we’ve slowly been making our way back out into the world after offering Mother Earth a brief respite from the everyday pollutive footprints humans unconsciously leave in their wake, perhaps helping to shape the direction O.’s latest collection of songs will take.

While she’s yet to announce that next step, today she’s sharing another new single (following “Prism,” released last month) called “The Natural World” which blissfully celebrates all the good things nature has to offer over a slightly funky and subtly catchy synth-guided instrumental. “This is a declaration of wonder and reverence for the living Earth,” she shares. “As we phase out fossil fuels, the way through the climate crisis is by regeneration of this planet’s incredible natural systems. This song is for alignment with life on Earth—including one another. The future requires us to consider everything and everyone; love and curiosity are key.”

Along with the track, she’s unveiling a lush visual in which she’s seen boogying in a wetsuit across various visually appealing natural landscapes. “I wanted to film the ‘Natural World’ video in the redwoods of California because it’s the most alive place I know,” she notes. “Old growth forests are the best carbon-capture technology in existence. I wanted a futuristic vision of a flourishing Earth—what if we try? What if we get it right? We imagine, and we are presented in film and literature, with every version of dystopia—dusty, bleak, and sinister. I think it’s important to envision the future we want so we can fight for it. What future are we calling forth? What could it look like?”

Check out her utopian vision below, and keep an eye out for news on the new LP arriving in 2023 via Mama Bird Recording Co. You can also find details about her upcoming residency at Permanent Records in LA underneath the video.
