Topic: Managing Employees

Park, Lake and Chaffee Counties are the Heart of the Rockies, much like our small businesses are the heart of our economy. Recent economic downturns have more adversely affected our small businesses as compared to the effect on larger ones. Since small businesses make up 99.9% of all firms and account for 65% of net new jobs in America, these small businesses are key to recovery and they have the ability to grow faster than our large businesses. In a recent survey conducted by NFIB in regard to the latest financial challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic, 92% have been negatively impacted by the outbreak with over 70% reporting they cannot remain operational longer than 4 months. The effects on the overall economy sustained from failing small businesses can be significant.

This 6-part series will help small businesses develop strategies for surviving an economic downturn, and provides the tools and methodology that provide an ongoing framework to help small businesses assess and reassess their purpose, understand and improve their current financial and operational health, ensure they have the right team in place to execute, and PIVOT during changes in market conditions and of course changing customer needs. This series is intended to be foundationally implemented at our small businesses as part of a continuous improvement mindset: allowing frequent pivots and a more nimble approach to changing situations. We seek to establish an ongoing “Strive to Thrive” mentality in our small businesses as opposed to a “Scramble to Survive” one. The result...small businesses that plan for and adapt to change and THRIVE as a result. Ultimately, the series is intended to inspire local businesses to learn “how to fish” and rely on the tools they have to succeed in any circumstance.
