Dear SoM Community,
I am reaching out to provide you with an update regarding our partnership with LCMC Health and to make you aware that LCMC Health has taken legal action in federal court against the federal government to uphold the State of Louisiana’s approval of our partnership. This lawsuit reaffirms that the partnership was approved by the Louisiana Department of Justice and that all proper steps were taken to ensure all necessary government approvals were received before moving forward. The Louisiana Attorney General’s approval of our partnership with LCMC Health via the COPA mechanism was rigorous and transparent, and his legal opinion was that the State of Louisiana’s regulatory process was operating in the best interests of the patients we serve and the members of our community. (See AG Landry’s statement here)
While this new development will not affect your day-to-day work and the transition to our new partnership, we wanted to provide this information to you.
The partnership between LCMC Health and Tulane University will be transformational for the New Orleans region, and will greatly benefit patients, staff, and our community. It will advance academic medicine, and be the genesis for even more groundbreaking research, innovative technology and lifesaving treatments that ensure patients and communities can receive the highest quality of care, right here in the greater New Orleans region.
We were honored by the level of support the partnership received in the community after a long public comment period and subsequent approval by state officials. We remain focused on integrating with the LCMC health system and providing care and support for patients, staff, and physicians.
While the legal process plays out, we will continue to focus on working with LCMC Health to deliver the benefits of the partnership to our patients and our community. We will continue to maintain an open and transparent line of communication with you.
Lee
