Graduate Fellowship Opportunity

The Martha Bradley Evans Center for Teaching Excellence (MBECTE) is seeking two graduate students to join our team as Graduate Fellows. These paid positions begin in the Fall 2024 semester, with the potential to work hourly during Summer 2024. Both positions are designed to be flexible with graduate students’ program responsibilities.

This unique opportunity allows you to strengthen the teaching and leadership components of your CV, increase your own knowledge of best practices in higher education pedagogy, and assist faculty and other graduate students refine their teaching skills. It may also provide exposure to online and hybrid teaching environments.

Position #1: Graduate Fellow / Generalist (20hrs/week)

Work closely with MBECTE staff to support instruction across disciplines on the Salt Lake City campus. Potential responsibilities include:

  • Conduct classroom observations, student focus groups, and consultations with instructors
  • Create multimedia materials about higher education pedagogy
  • Help prepare and present pedagogy workshops
  • Assist MBECTE instructors in course instruction

Position #2: Graduate Fellow / International Focus (10hrs/week)

Support MBECTE staff in building resources and connections for international students on campus, as well as work remotely with MBECTE affiliates on the Utah Asia Campus. Potential responsibilities include:

  • Develop resources for instructors on working with international students (undergraduate and graduate)
  • Help prepare and present pedagogy workshops
  • Assist MBECTE Affiliate on Utah Asia Campus with faculty development needs

The benefits of working as a MBECTE Graduate Fellow include:

  • Up to $10,000* per semester stipend, depending on hours worked (Tuition Benefit Eligible)

Strong candidates will possess the following:

  • Experience as a teacher or teaching assistant in higher education
  • Passion for supporting the U’s teaching mission through instructor development
  • Interest in higher education pedagogy and effective teaching practices
  • Confidence interacting with professors and instructors from many disciplines
  • Ability to manage time and workload effectively

Pedagogies of Belonging

Graduate Fellowship Opportunity

The Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) is seeking a graduate student to join our team as a Pedagogies of Belonging Graduate Fellow Consultant. This paid position begins in the Fall 2024 semester and extends throughout the 24/25 school year. The opportunity to work hourly during the summer and up to 0.5 FTE (20 hours per week) during the semester allows this position to be flexible with graduate students’ program responsibilities.

This unique opportunity allows you to strengthen the teaching and leadership components of your CV, increase your own knowledge of best practices in higher education pedagogy, and assist faculty and other graduate students in refining their teaching skills. It may also provide exposure to online and hybrid teaching environments. The Pedagogies of Belonging Graduate Fellow will work with the Coordinator of Pedagogies of Belonging at CTE to help in supporting and consulting with faculty and instructors.

Potential responsibilities include:

  • Conducting classroom observations, student focus groups, and consultations with instructors
  • Creating marketing materials for CTE events
  • Helping prepare and present teaching workshops
  • Supporting CTE Faculty Learning Communities
  • Assisting CTE instructors in teaching online, hybrid, and face-to-face classes

A strong candidate would possess the following:

  • Experience teaching in higher education and working with diverse populations
  • Passion for infusing belonging into teaching
  • Interest in higher education pedagogy and learning effective teaching practices
  • Confidence interacting with professors and instructors from many disciplines
  • Ability to manage time and workload effectively and independently
