MOSCOW, RUSSIA — Russian grain exports are expected to rise sharply in 2019-20, according to SovEcon, an agriculture consultancy in Moscow.
SovEcon told Reuters on May 24 that it forecasts Russian grain exports at 49.4 million tonnes, compared with 44 million tonnes in 2018-19.
The 2019-20 export total includes 38.2 million tonnes of wheat, 5.3 million tonnes of barley and 3.9 million tonnes of corn, according to SovEcon.
The Russian Agriculture Ministry on May 23 issued a similar forecast for 2019-20, estimating grain exports at 45 million tonnes, including 36 million tonnes of wheat.
Russia has in recent years become the world’s No. 1 wheat exporter, finishing first in three of the past four years, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
