During the Spring semester, journalist and alumna Megan K. Stack, '98 will join SMPA as the 2022 J.B. and Maurice C. Shapiro Fellow in the School of Media and Public Affairs. An award-winning war correspondent and author, Ms. Stack has written about conflict, politics and breaking news on every continent except Antarctica. She is a contributing editor at 1843, The Economist’s long-form narrative magazine, and is a regular contributor to The New Yorker and The New York Times Magazine. Her first book, Every Man In This Village Is A Liar, was a finalist for the National Book Award.

Shapiro Fellow,” said Silvio Waisbord, SMPA Director. “Ms. Stack has an impressive background in journalism, and I am excited for SMPA students to have the opportunity to meet and learn from her. Also, this will be an incredible opportunity for students to interact and learn from an alumna with a remarkable career”
This Spring Ms. Stack will be teaching Foreign Correspondence. The course will teach and analyze common foreign correspondence methods in order to sharpen reporting skills both abroad and at home, particularly when working in communities or institutions beyond the writer’s personal zone of comfort or experience.

Shapiro Charitable Trust, Shapiro Fellows in Media and Public Affairs are active, respected professionals in a field related to media and public affairs who are invited to campus for an academic semester to teach and participate in school activities.
