Vision in the fulfillment of the mission
Then the LORD replied: “Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. Habakkuk 2:2 (NIV)
The role of prayer in receiving and confirming a vision is essential. Habakkuk gives us an example of seeking God in prayer in order to receive the vision for fulfillment of the mission. Our mission is given by Jesus in Matthew 28:18-20 and Acts 1:8. It is essential that pastors and churches have a vision for evangelism and discipleship in fulfilling the mission. Through prayer, one must seek God's vision for the church. The vision will help the church to see the community through the eyes of Jesus: "Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white to harvest" (John 4:34-38).
Writing and sharing the vision is also important. The vision that God gives to the church through its pastors and leaders must be written and published so that the church grasps and owns the vision. Sharing the vision is not a matter of one Sunday’s announcement or mentioning it over a period of weeks or months. It is to be communicated by all possible means until everyone can embrace and be impacted by the vision of the church in its fulfillment of the mission.
Vision without a strategy is an illusion. A strategy without an action plan is frustration.
