CEI Bias Response Form

Thank you for taking the time to report bias in your own life, and the overall community of Simon’s Rock. Each report strengthens our awareness of bias at Simon’s Rock, and underscores commitment to robust and consistent bias response.

The Bias Response Team (BRT) is a campus resource designed to help restore relationships and promote cultural competency education and training on campus. The BRT is a non-judicial, non-investigatory, and non-punitive group of staff, students, and faculty that listens to and advocates for members of the Simon's Rock community who believe they may have experienced discrimination and/or bias. The Team works to address bias through community engagement and education as well as restorative practices makes recommendations through those frameworks.

Please see the appropriate Handbook for further resources and detailed descriptions of this and all other reporting policies and outlets on campus.

A Note About Confidentiality
The Team will not share information received with other individuals without the explicit permission of the individual who brought the concern to the Team. The Team does, however have a responsibility to refer reports that falll into the following circumstances:
a.  Information suggesting a possible Title IX violation, including any violations of the Sexual Misconduct Policy, must be reported to the Title IX Coordinator or their deputy.
b. Information suggesting a possible criminal act covered under the Clery Act will be reported anonymously (without revealing the identities of those involved unless involving harm or potential harm to an individual or individuals) to the Director of Campus Safety, as required by the Clery Act.
c. Information suggesting a concern of imminent threat of harm to anyone will be shared with the appropriate campus administration or local and state authorities.
d. When required by law, for example, in response to a court order or request from an external state or federal agency, the Team will share records.

Our preference is to engage directly with the involved parties, but if an individual is involved in multiple or a particularly egregious case, BRT may need to contact the individual’s supervisor (for Staff/Faculty) and/or the Dean of Students (for students). That supervisor and department will receive support in addressing the issue as appropriate.

Suspected Code of Student Conduct violations will not automatically be referred to the Campus Life Office unless done so in consultation with the individual(s) reporting the incident. Incidents involving violations of other campus policies will similarly not be referred to the responsible offices, with the exceptions listed above.

Although you are not required to provide your name or contact information, doing so helps us to center your voice and to follow up with you on the progress.
