State of Florida Announces Additional 30 Days of 100% Federal Cost Share for Hurricane Ian

~President grants Governor DeSantis' request for debris removal and emergency protective measures at 100% of the total eligible costs for an additional 30-day period~

Today, Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) Director Kevin Guthrie announced the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) amendment to Florida's Major Disaster Declaration for Hurricane Ian.

The President extended the time period for 100% federal funding for debris removal and emergency protective measures, including direct federal assistance under Public Assistance, for an additional 30-day period.  This extends the initial federal funding at 100% for a period of 60 days from the start of the incident period. The amendment is available here.

“Hurricane Ian left devastating impacts in Southwest, Central and Northeast Florida, and every extra day of assistance helps communities clean up and rebuild,” said FDEM Director Kevin Guthrie. “I want to thank Governor DeSantis for his swift leadership in securing every resource possible for impacted communities, and to our federal partners at FEMA for working closely with our recovery teams to assess damages and free up available funding.”

On September 29, 2022, President Joseph R. Biden Jr., granted a Major Disaster Declaration for the State of Florida to help people and communities recover from Hurricane Ian that occurred September 23, 2022, and continuing. The notice of the Presidential declaration of a major disaster for Hurricane Ian is available here.

Public Assistance Category A (debris removal) is available to Charlotte, Collier, DeSoto, Flagler, Hardee, Hendry, Highlands, Hillsborough, Indian River, Lake, Lee, Manatee, Monroe, Orange, Osceola, Pinellas, Polk, Putnam, Sarasota, Seminole, St. Johns and Volusia counties. All 67 counties, the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians and the Seminole Tribe of Florida are eligible for Public Assistance Category B (emergency protective measures).

FEMA’s Public Assistance program provides supplemental grants to state, tribal, territorial, and local governments, and certain types of private non-profits so communities can quickly respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies.

The Public Assistance program is not available to individuals. Impacted residents in need of financial or direct services due to Hurricane Ian should apply for Individual Assistance here. Households in need of damage assistance can call the Crisis Cleanup Hotline at 1-800-451-1954. The hotline will remain open through Friday, October 28.
