Bio

Dr. Laurie Connors is a Professor of Nursing at Vanderbilt University and based on the interdisciplinary nature of her work, she has an appointment in the School of Nursing and Vanderbilt Genetics Institute. Laurie is triple board-certified as a family nurse practitioner and advanced practice nurse in genetics and oncology. Her commitment to nursing science and translational genomics is evident in a successful NIH-funded research program and leadership as the current President of the International Society of Nurses in Genetics. 

Dr. Connors served as content expert for standards of national certification in genomic nursing for the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Connors' accolades include recognition as a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing and American Association of Nurse Practitioners; these fellowships demonstrate enduring contributions to nursing and commitment to ensuring access and equity in oncology care. She is the former director of clinical genetics in the largest community oncology group of Western New York with published outcomes of translational genomics focusing on person centered care and population health. 

Dr. Connors' lifelong learning includes a PhD in Nursing Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (2024), a Doctorate in Nursing Practice (2012), and Master's (1997) and Bachelor's in Nursing (1995) from SUNY at Buffalo, and Associate in Applied Science (1992) from Trocaire College. As a dedicated mentor, Laurie has guided numerous students and early career faculty across disciplines- fostering the development of the next generation of nursing and healthcare professionals. Dr. Connors' background highlights her ability and experience to provide strategic direction, stimulate research and clinical expansion, enhance educational programming, and influence policy to advance nursing and improve health outcomes.
