Central College’s Central RED Society will present “A Hospitable Place: A Photo Tour of Historic and Modern-Day Hospices” with Linda Laine, interim associate academic dean at Central, on Thursday, Nov. 3.
Dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. in Dave and Ardie Sutphen Common Room within Graham Annex on Central’s campus. The presentation begins at 6 p.m. The cost is $15, and a cash bar will be available.
In this presentation, Laine will trace the hospice movement’s beginnings in London through modern times with a photo tour of historic and present-day hospice spaces. Individuals will learn about the development of hospice by touring the spaces that have been important throughout history. This includes its roots in the Middle East to the Middle Ages and the birth of the modern-day hospice movement.
Laine will focus on communication across different organizational and health contexts. Her current research examines the communication between hospice volunteers and paid staff, exploring the role of volunteers in community outreach. Laine has been a member of the Central faculty since 2004 and has been a teacher-scholar since 1993. Her passion for health communication will come through as she presents on hospice spaces in the modern era.

To celebrate Central RED’s 10-year anniversary, no membership fee will be charged from June 1, 2022, to May 31, 2023. All classes and workshops are available for the public to attend. You must register and pay meal costs in advance for each class you will be attending.
