Student with gun at Hixson Middle School arrested Thursday, says sheriff's office

HIXSON, Tenn. — The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) says deputies arrested a student at Hixson Middle School on Thursday for having a gun on school property.

Thursday was the first day back at school for students in Hamilton County, including at Hixson Middle School.

HCSO spokeswoman Rachel Frizzell says the incident was handled "quickly and safely," and credits an HCSO School Resource Officer who was on campus at the time.

She is not identifying the student. She would also not say whether the gun was loaded, or where exactly on the school campus the gun was located.

"HCSO currently has SROs at every middle and high school in Hamilton County and their outstanding work helps prevent and resolve events such as this," Frizzell told us in an email.

Frizzell says an investigation into this incident is now underway.
