MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Independence High School in North Mississippi was locked down on Wednesday because a student was found with a handgun, according to Tate County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies received a call to the school at 12:50. They say a 15-year-old student was taken into custody while possessing a loaded handgun.
No shots were fired and no one was injured, but the school was locked down in accordance with school policy.
Aaron Richmond is being charged as an adult, following state law, the sheriff’s department said. He is charged with one count of possession of a firearm on school property and will be held without bond pending his initial appearance in Tate County Justice Court.
