SBCC MESA students handpicked to attend leadership conference

Four talented MESA (Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement) students from SBCC were selected to attend the MESA Student Leadership STEM conference at San Diego's Marriott Mission Valley, Oct. 28-29. This year's conference challenged students to design a product/service that addressed a problem caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. SBCC student Lissette Gonzalez was on COVID-19 competition winning team, and student Sol Ortega Cueva on the second-place team.
Says Lissette, "For me the conference was inspiring and touching! The stories shared by both speakers and students illustrated a critical point in their lives as they struggle to survive in a STEM environment. They also shared that although life can be tough we are not alone and when we begin to see our true potential, great things can happen."
