Tamanika T. Steward

I come from a family of educators who value the ways in which education can transform the experiences and lives of people. In many ways, I see my work in Higher Education as a continuation of their legacy combined with my own passion for lifelong learning.

Prior to coming to Williams, I was a tenured faculty member in the English Department at Henry Ford College. In addition to chairing several committees that directly addressed curricula and retention matters, I advised students and guided their scholarly and social development as well as their learning outcomes. I also contributed to institutional strategic planning and outreach programming with the aim to shape strong, community-based partnerships. Although I have left the classroom, I remain very interested in student pursuits of intellectual self-discovery, and I am deeply committed to helping students navigate academic, economic, and social challenges.

I will meet with Sophomore year students to help them choose their major, navigate academic departments, and fulfill division requirements. I will also provide dedicated support to transfer, veteran, and other non-traditional students just as I have in my past work experiences.

I am a native Southern Californian who is happy to be among the mountains and beautiful vistas found in the Purple Valley. Some of my personal interests include hiking, kayaking, and trail running. I also enjoy spending time with my family, reading, listening to jazz, attending outdoor concerts and events, visiting libraries and museums, learning about foodways and food origins, and cooking gourmet meals.
