Former Central College all-American linebacker Al Dorenkamp is again on the ballot for the National Football Foundation’s College Football Hall of Fame.

Dorenkamp, a 1975 graduate, served as captain of Central’s 1974 team which posted an 11-0 record and claimed the NCAA Division III crown, winning the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl in Phenix City, Alabama. He was named to the Kodak Division III All-America Team.

Dorenkamp is among 96 players and 33 coaches on the ballot from divisional ranks while 80 players and nine coaches are under consideration from the Football Bowl Subdivision.

Central already has two members in the hall, which is now located in Atlanta. Former NFL defensive end Vern Den Herder, a 1971 graduate, was inducted in 1996 and Ron Schipper, who coached Central from 1961-96, was inducted in 2000.

A member of the NCAA Division III Football Championships Committee from 2004-07, including three years as chair, Dorenkamp served as Central’s athletics director from 1998-2012.

Next year’s hall of fame class will be announced in early 2023.
