Grand Valley State University

Dear GVSU Campus Community,

As part of ongoing efforts to streamline and standardize university processes, Grand Valley State University is updating its property disposal procedures effective immediately as part of fiscal year 2027 operations. As part of this effort, the GVSU Surplus Store permanently closed at the end of fiscal year 2026.

Going forward, disposal activities will continue to be coordinated through Procurement Services in accordance with existing university policies, including BOT Policy 7.2 and SLT Policy 6.5. Additionally, there are updated disposal procedures contained in Business and Finance Procedures, which are intended to provide guidance on how departments should handle surplus, obsolete, worn-out, or no longer needed university property.

Key updates include:

  • Furniture and furniture-related items that hold no resale or reuse value should work directly with Facilities Planning regarding removal and disposal.
  • Computers and peripheral equipment will continue to be managed through the IT Service Portal for repurposing, recycling, and hard drive clearing.
  • Items with an estimated value under $250 should generally be disposed of by the department directly. Consultation assistance is available through the general email address listed below.
  • Items with an estimated value of $250 or more must be submitted to the Business & Finance Disposal Coordinator for consultation and scheduled for pickup. Please use the disposal request form: Disposal Request Form
  • Fleet vehicle sales and approved donation requests will continue to be coordinated through Procurement Services.

Departments are encouraged to review the updated disposal procedures carefully and contact Procurement Services if assistance or clarification is needed regarding a specific item or disposal situation. You may contact us directly at surplus@gvsu.edu.

We appreciate your cooperation and support as we transition to this new business process.  Please reach out to Aaron Caccamo at caccamoa@gvsu.edu or 616-331-3436 with any questions related to this change or for disposal questions, please contact surplus@gvsu.edu or call 616-331-8107.
