The UVC (United Volleyball Conference) All-Academic Team for the 2020-2021 academic year was announced Wednesday, with SUNY New Paltz accounting for 10 of the total 66 student-athletes who made the cut from eight UVC member schools.
For the Hawks, seniors
Tenzin Kunga (Finance).
Robert Nolan (Accounting), and
Nick O'Malley (Adolescent Education/Mathematics), received the honor, while juniors getting the nod were
Cam Clark (Business),
Tim Drake (Finance),
Dan LaRosa (Finance),
Matt Logel (Mechanical Engineering),
John Ronan (Finance), and
Chris Shanley (Marketing). Rounding out the 10 was sophomore
Pat Wing, who majors in Adolescent Education and Mathematics. All met the eligibly requirement of student-athletes (who must be at least sophomores) to possess at minimum a 3.30 grade-point average.
Shanley adds the academic recognition (his second in as many years) to his impressive statistical junior year, which saw him finish first in the UVC in hitting percentage and ninth in points, while Nolan -- the 2021 UVC Libero of the Year -- finished first in the conference in digs. O'Malley, who began at SUNY New Paltz in 2017, caps his Hawks career with UVC All-Academic recognition and a spot on the SUNYAC Commissioner's Honor-Roll adding to his on-court exploits. Back in May he was named to the UVC First Team as well as to the AVCA All-America team. Nolan, Clark, LaRosa, Logel and Wing were also named to the SUNYAC Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll earlier this month.
