During this abbreviated Spring 2021 season, the Stockton field hockey team is seeking to continue a winning trend that has seen the Ospreys go 29-10 over the last two seasons. Head coach
Sarah Elleman has a squad that is small in numbers but large in experience, featuring several players who have contributed during the team's recent run of success.
Â
Stockton boasts 10 returnees who saw action in 12 games or more last season, including seven who started at least 14 contests. Five seniors and three juniors make up the nucleus of the veteran squad, with six sophomores and two freshmen also in the mix.
Â
Leading the team will be senior
Casey Cordonna, who earned an NJAC First Team nod for her play in 2019. Cordonna leads the defense and is the trigger on the penalty corners. She tallied five goals and dished two assists for 12 points, with two of her scores being game-winners last year.
Â
Joining Cordonna is 2019 NJAC Second Team selection
Issy Gilhooley who tied for sixth in the league with eight assists. The senior also scored three goals for 14 points and made one defensive save.
Â
Lauryn Flynn,
Hannah Wescoat, and
Isabella Ceraso, all of whom played all 18 games a year ago also return on defense. Flynn and Wescoat are in their third year as starters.
Kelsey Andrus and
Katie Keeney will add to the depth. Andrus played in 15 games last season.
Â
Madison Dancisin is a returning starter in the midfield who scored four goals and dished one assist for nine points last time around.
Tori Wilson, who will also play up front, saw action in 12 games as a freshman last season.
Kelly Mollahan and
Rhian Freire (9 games) will be counted on for contributions as well.
Â
Up front,
Gianna Morganti is back after leading the team with 11 goals (T-8th in NJAC) and three assists for 25 points. Morganti also topped the team with four game-winning goals (T-5th in NJAC) and was a perfect 4-4 on penalty strokes in 2019.
Â
Lainie Allegretto added a pair of goals last season, both game-winners and should see increased playing time this spring.
Madison Maguire (9 games) will be delayed due to injury, so freshman
Jenna Fiorito will be counted on to add scoring punch.
Â
The veteran Stockton defense will play in front of a rookie goaltender in freshman
Kylie Mitchell, who will look to add her name to the long list of stellar netminders that have provided stability throughout the program's history.
