Camden, N.J. – Stockton University (17-12, 8-3 NJAC) scored six consecutive runs to erase a 2-0 deficit and post a 6-2 victory over Rutgers-Camden (21-10, 7-4 NJAC). The victory moved the Ospreys into a tie with Ramapo for first place in the conference.
Nick Avagnano (Paramus/Paramus) powered the Stockton offense by going 3-4 with a home run, two runs, two RBI, one walk and one stolen base.
Tony Gatti (Howell/Howell) and
Robbie Ford (Green Twp./Newton) rapped two hits apiece.
The Ospreys trailed 2-0 entering the top of the fifth until an RBI single by Gatti got the team on the board. Avagnano slugged his team-leading sixth homer of the season in the sixth frame, a two-run blast that lifted Stockton to a 3-2 lead.
In the seventh inning, an RBI double by
Jordan Nitti (Hamilton/Steinert) and a two-run double by
Tucker Elder (Ewing/Ewing) gave the Ospreys some breathing room at 6-2, which ended up being the final score.
Starter
Rob Jeans (Toms River/TR North) earned the win with six strong innings in which he allowed just one earned run plus one unearned on eight hits with four strikeouts.
Dylan Sakele (Rumson/Rumson-Fair Haven) tossed three scoreless innings and yielded just one hit for a save.
Stockton will host Rutgers-Camden in the back half of the two-game set tomorrow at 3:30 p.m.
