Galloway, N.J. – The Stockton University men's and women's track & field teams qualified for All-Academic Team honors from the
U.S Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for the 2022 season. Teams required a minimum grade point average of 3.10 in order to qualify.
The Stockton women's team, coached by
Todd Curll, registered a 3.49 team grade point average and the Osprey men's squad, coached by
Jayson Resch, recorded a 3.10 grade point average. The women's team made the list for the 11th consecutive year while the men's team qualified for the 10th time in the last 11 years.
In addition to the team honors, five Stockton student-athletes qualified as USTFCCCA All-Academic Athletes individually. The two men's qualifiers were throwers
Darren Wan (Egg Harbor Twp./EHT) and
William Gross (Marlton/Cherokee). Wan qualified for the third consecutive time.
Three qualifiers from the Stockton women's team were high jumper
Susann Foley (Tabernacle/Seneca) pole vaulter
Lauren Preston (Wernersville, Pa./Conrad Weiser) and thrower
Shahyan Abraham (Orange/Orange). Foley earned recognition as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Athlete for the third straight year and Preston met the requirement for the second time in a row.
In order to qualify, competitors needed to have a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or higher and finished the season ranked in the top 50 in the nation in an individual event or top 35 nationally in a relay.
Wan racked up numerous honors this year, highlighted by an All-America nod after a sixth-place finish in the hammer throw at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. He also was USTFCCCA All-Region in the indoor weight throw and outdoor hammer throw plus NJAC Second Team in both events. Wan was voted CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team and CoSIDA Academic All-District 2 as well.
Gross collected USTFCCCA All-Region accolades in the shot put for the indoor and outdoor seasons. He was NJAC First Team in the indoor shot put and NJAC Second Team in the outdoor shot put. Foley received USTFCCCA All-Region and NJAC First Team honors in the high jump during both the indoor and outdoor seasons.
Abraham compiled four USTFCCCA All-Region kudos (indoor shot put and weight throw, outdoor shot put and discus) and was voted NJAC Outstanding Field Athlete for the outdoor season. She amassed five all-conference honors during the year (NJAC First Team indoor shot put and outdoor shot put, NJAC Second Team outdoor discus and hammer throw, NJAC Honorable Mention indoor weight throw).
Preston garnered USTFCCCA All-Region status in the indoor and outdoor pole vault to go with four NJAC Field Athlete of the Week awards this year. She finished the outdoor season ranked 20th in NCAA Division III but missed the NCAA Championships after suffering a season-ending injury on April 30.
The Stockton men's and women's team each finished third at both the NJAC Indoor Championships and NJAC Outdoor Championships this season.
