BNIM is honored to have received five award recognitions at the 2021 AIA Kansas | AIA Central States Region Design Excellence Awards Celebration on October 7, recognizing outstanding architecture within that states of Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and Oklahoma.

The Kirk Family YMCA

is an adaptive reuse project that transforms the historic Lyric Theatre in downtown Kansas City, Missouri, into a fitness center and community resource. Bringing the Y back to the Kansas City urban core after more than two decades, the Kirk Family YMCA provides a welcoming and inclusive environment for visitors. The project received an an AIA Central States Excellence in Design Honor Award and AIA Kansas Excellence in Design Honorable Mention Award.

The Winnetonka High School New Entry and Addition

creates a modern, welcoming entrance addition and a series of enhanced interior spaces for Winnetonka High School that promote school spirit and support connection among the student community. The project received an AIA Kansas Excellence in Design Honorable Mention Award.

The Tom and Ruth Harkin Center in Des Moines

establishes a new home for the Harkin Institute at Drake University. The facility sets a new standard for Inclusive and Equitable design, with a focus on elevating the experience of all building users through generous space, equitable experiences, clear paths, and individual empowerment. The Tom and Ruth Harkin Center was recognized with an AIA Central States Excellence in Design Honor Award.

The MidAmerican Energy Corporate Office and Conference Center Renovation

forms an intervention of light and volume that reconnects a former warehouse workspace in wellness and productivity. Reorganization, modernization, and human-purposed design strategies introduced over 70 formal and informal meeting areas, a 144-seat conference center, and various workplace amenities to enhance employee experience. The renovation was recognized with an AIA Central States Region Excellence in Design Honor Award.
