3 Rivers is a telecommunications cooperative. The members of the cooperative actually own the company and elect a Board of Trustees that sets policy to represent member's interests and ensure the company's success. Cooperative members will be allocated capital credits based on patronage. This allocation will be a percentage of annual earnings over and above expenses.
As nonprofit organizations, cooperatives seek to provide their members the highest quality service at the most affordable rates. Revenues earned above operating expenses are called margins. At the end of each fiscal year, the cooperative allocates a percentage of the margins to each member on a pro-rata basis according to the total amount paid or produced for services. These allocations to members are known as capital credits. At the discretion of the Board of Trustees and based on the financial condition of the cooperative, these allocations are refunded to members.
If I move out of the 3 Rivers Cooperative Area, how will I get my capital credits? When you disconnect, we will ask you for a permanent home of record. Your capital credits will be sent to the address you give us. It is your responsibility to keep your address current.
To avoid a disruption during a power outage – and to maintain the ability to connect to 911 emergency services – 3 Rivers Communications will install a battery with backup power for the new equipment we are providing. This is necessary because the old Local Exchange service did not require a separate power source—the copper wiring carried enough power to make things work. The backup batteries are expected to provide up to two hours of talk time. If you feel that is not enough time, you may extend your standby power by purchasing additional battery backups from our company or a third party.
