The following message provides important updates about May 2025 degree conferral and the May 2025 Graduate and Undergraduate Commencement Ceremonies. We are sharing these details ahead of the events so that our graduating students and their families/friends and our campus community can plan accordingly with travel arrangements and attendance plans.
Based on consultation and feedback from the Commencement Planning Committee – consisting of students, faculty and staff – and as noted on the academic calendar, we can affirm a longstanding tradition that the ceremonies will be held outdoors on Old Main Quad (rain or shine).

Guest Tickets:
Tickets will be available online through Glitnir Ticketing to graduating students who have completed their 2025 Application for Graduation with the Office of Records and Registration.
Up to four (4) guest tickets may be reserved by qualifying graduates to their ceremony online starting Tuesday, April 1, 2025. Graduates who have completed their applications will be sent an e-mail with a ticket link to your ceremony and a Presale/Offer Code for access to your ceremony. Double majors whose ceremonies fall on different days must select one ceremony to attend. Ticket reservations are to be made by May 2025 SUNY New Paltz graduates only. All other reservations will be cancelled.
Due to space capacity inside the reserved seating area, and to be fair to all students, four (4) tickets is the maximum number we can offer for the reserved section. Additional guests are welcome to bring lawn chairs and blankets and sit outside the reserved seating area. Children ages 2+ require a ticket for entry into the reserved seating area.
A list of departments and programs by academic school can be found on this webpage. And as a reminder for graduating students, applications for May 2025 degree conferral must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on January 1, 2025. If you missed this due date, please register your application with the Office of Records & Registration, who can also answer your questions regarding credits and eligibility.
For more information about the Commencement Planning Committee, please see this webpage. And general ceremony information can be found here. We want to take this opportunity to send a very special thank you to all the students who participated in the survey described on the committee webpage, a focus group or offered suggestions in other ways. Your contributions are essential to making this commencement a success for all.
We are grateful for the broad input received and look forward to a joyous commencement weekend in May 2025 where we can celebrate our students and their many achievements. And we hope that our graduates and their families, faculty, staff and the broader campus community, will join us then in supporting this momentous occasion.
