New Paltz, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz Athletics, Wellness & Recreation Department in coordination with the SUNY New Paltz Career Resource Center is offering a five-part workshop series to Hawks student-athletes in January.
The workshop is offered to underclassmen and upperclassmen alike with the hopes of giving student-athletes the tools necessary to succeed in their post-Hawk careers by highlighting all of their traits learned as student-athletes to potential future employers. The staff at the Career Resource Center will go over how to bolster co-curricular transcripts, guidance in graduate school searches and applications, how to best put together a resume, networking resources and strategies and much more.
Starting Jan. 11 through Jan. 15 the Career Resources Staff will hold virtual seminars on various topics. All SUNY New Paltz student-athletes are welcomed to participate with no registration necessary.

Graduate School Search, Applications, and Personal Statements
When: Monday, Jan. 11 at 3 p.m.
Presenter: Samantha Lopes, Senior Career Specialist
This workshop will answer a number of questions about graduate school search. How do you find the right program? What is involved in the application process? How do I write a personal statement? How do I prepare for and register for an entrance exam (e.g., GRE, GMAT, LSAT, etc.)
Resumes for jobs and Internships
When: Tuesday, Jan. 12 at 3 p.m.
Presenter: Nicole St. Onge, Senior Career Specialist
Learn tips and tricks on how to create a resume that employers will want to look at. We will cover resume formatting, writing strong descriptions, highlighting your athletic and leadership experiences, and how to use your resume to your advantage.
The Job Search: Resources and Networking Strategies
When: Wednesday, Jan. 13 at 3 p.m.
Presenter: Christine Daly, Senior Career Specialist
Gain access to and the ability to utilize job search resources and strategies. This includes resources like HawkHire, CareerShift, LinkedIn, Orange and Blue Network, and targeted sites based on interests and majors. In addition, attendees will become familiar with key strategies such as how to request and conduct informational interviews and career conversations.
Internships: Search Strategies and Receiving Credit
When: Thursday, Jan. 14 at 3 p.m.
Presenter: Beth King, Internship Coordinator
This session is designed to help you conduct a successful internship search. You will learn about effective resources and receive tips to guide you. Join us to begin your own search!
Interview Prep: For jobs, Internships, and Graduate School
When: Friday, Jan. 15 at 3 p.m.
Presenter: Dawn McCaw, Assistant Director
Interviewing is a skill that needs to be both learned and practiced in order to achieve your personal best! Learn strategies to prepare for an interview including how to leverage your athletic, academic, and professional experiences to effectively communicate that you are the right candidate for the position.
