Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Stockton Squeezes by Salisbury 1-0

Galloway, NJ –Stockton University (8-3-2) got back into the win column with a tough 1-0 victory over Salisbury University (1-7-2) in a non-conference tilt on Wednesday afternoon. Freshman Aiden Hoenisch (Bordentown/Notre Dame) scored the game winner in the final six minutes to propel the Ospreys to victory.

Both teams were able to get just two shots off each during the first half, none on net, but the Sea Gulls carried much of the play. Stockton held a 7-1 advantage on corner kicks but could not convert.

Stockton turned up the offense in the last 45 minutes, pushing nine shots at Salisbury to four for the visitors. The Ospreys nearly had the tie-breaking goal in the 74th minute when Brendan Deal (Monroe Twp./Monroe Twp.) took a pass from Joseph Carbone (Pequannock/Pequannock) near the left corner.

His blast headed toward the low right corner, but Sea Gulls netminder Ryan Socks got just enough of the ball to have it glance off the right post to keep the match tied at 0-0. It would stay that way until Hoenisch broke through for the game winning score.

At 83:07, Deal gained the end line and fed a pass to Hoenisch. His header to the low left corner gave Stockton the 1-0 lead for his fourth tally of the season. The Osprey defense tightened up over the final six minutes and the home squad came away with the win.

Liam Brett (Palmyra/Palmyra) made two saves in posting his fifth shutout of the season in net.

Socks made just one save in the loss for Salisbury.

The Ospreys will return to conference play when Stockton takes on William Paterson at home on Saturday. Game time is 1 pm.
