Program Overview
Filoli’s Internship Program offers college students a unique introduction to careers in horticulture, public gardens, museums, and nonprofit administration. This 10-week summer program provides hands-on experience, collaboration with staff, and the opportunity to contribute to Filoli’s seasonal public programs.
Position Title: Plant Collections Intern
Program Dates: June 16 - August 22, 2025
Schedule: Full-time (30-40 hours per week); some evenings and weekends required.
Compensation: $23.00 per hour
What You’ll Do
- Plant identification and research on plant taxonomy and nomenclature
- Use GIS software for mapping, plant photography and using/updating databases
- Act as a Filoli ambassador, engaging with visitors and participating in public events
What We’re Looking For
- High school diploma or GED equivalent and enrollment in a 2 or 4-year college program (rising freshman and beyond)
- Experience in work, volunteer, or leadership roles
- Ability to learn, understand, and apply the basic principles of horticulture, plant science, and botany
- Ability to learn database and GIS software, use with accuracy and attention to detail + proficiency with email and basic MS Office and Google Suite applications
- Good communication skills and the ability to work independently and in teams
- Demonstrated interest in environmental science or horticulture, in a home garden, public or community garden, clubs, volunteer services, or with a related job
