Mission and Vision

  • Mission

Centering ideals of social justice, the Peabody Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion strives to co-create an equitable and inclusive culture with members of the Peabody community to promote innovations in learning, research, and human development for all. In doing so, we support the creation of an equitable and inclusive community where all students, faculty, and staff can thrive.

  • Vision

We work to co-create and maintain an equitable and inclusive campus that empowers all Peabody students, faculty, and staff to learn in diverse and inclusive communities. Our goal is to grow as culturally humble and respectful individuals, equipped and inspired to be active and engaged citizens of the communities we serve.

    We envision a campus where:

    1. Social justice and equity are used as a primary lens for creating and evaluating institutional policies and procedures.
    2. Equity, diversity, and inclusion principles are institutionalized through campus policies and procedures, and are considered germane to academic and social success.
    3. Diversity is recognized as a core value and celebrated through conversations, events, and programs.
    4. All campus members feel they belong and are empowered to discover and live out their truth.
    5. Campus members are provided with opportunities to explore their identities, both individually and collectively.
    6. Campus members are equipped with the knowledge and resources to advocate for social justice through conversation and action on-campus and off-campus.
    7. Campus members are aware of campus and community resources available to support their success.
Diversity Career Services

Support

The Black Cultural Center, International Student & Scholar Services, Office of LGBTQI Life and The Center for Spiritual and Religious Life are just a few of the campus partners we work with to offer members of the Peabody community opportunities to explore their individual and collective identities. We also work to support students, faculty, and staff with accessibility or accommodation needs; provide guidance for discrimination and Title IX reporting; and consult on EDI issues as needed.

Programming

Conversations around equity and inclusion and programs like the Dean's Diversity Lecture Series and Faculty FaceTime Fridays celebrate our core values. We are proud to offer these lectures, events and workshops as part of our commitment to making Vanderbilt more equitable, diverse and inclusive.
