128 YEARS AND COUNTING!

As one of the oldest, most unique Black Culture Centers in the United States, we are built on the legacy of our founder, Mr. Issac Dickson. Today our work focuses on the restoration of this foundation!

The “128 Years and Counting” campaign has not been lost even though we know that we still have work to do to advance the black community here in Asheville to ensure a stronger region for years to come. As we look at the world around us, even as we celebrate progress, we know there's still so much more that needs to occur for us all to reach our full potential.

To achieve the goals of the “128 Years and Counting” campaign, the Board of Directors of the YMI have authorized a $6.4 million fundraising goal from all sources. It is expected that $3.5 million of the support will be realize from public and foundation support, $1.8 million will be gifted from individuals, corporations and houses of faith who share the vision of elevation in the black community here in Asheville. The remaining funds will be used to support programming and community engagement efforts while we continue to strengthen ongoing development efforts.
