Lee, Barnes Earn WIAC Major Awards

Cassie Lee (Downers Grove, Ill./Timothy Christian), a junior member of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis team, has been named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Kwik Trip Player of the Year. Head Coach Frank Barnes was selected as the league's Coach of the Year.

Lee is the eighth Warhawk to earn conference Player of the Year honors in the 13 years the WIAC has recognized a top athlete. This season, Lee boasts a singles record of 12-3 and is 12-2 in doubles play. Of the five losses, two were to a NCAA Division I opponent and a third was to a NCAA Division II athlete. Lee cruised to a WIAC title at No. 1 singles and paired with teammate Gracie Ha (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) for a No. 1 doubles title this fall.

Barnes claimed his 10th Coach of the Year honor as the head of the women's tennis program. This fall he led the Warhawks to a 17th consecutive WIAC title - the program's 24th overall league championship. UW-Whitewater secured titles in five of six singles flights and two doubles flights during the 2023 WIAC Championship.
