ABOUT US

We are Pepe and Nicolle. In 2004 we moved from Boston, Massachusetts to Pepe's hometown of Valparaiso, Chile. There we opened an international vegetarian restaurant/bar and, for the six years it was open, loved every moment of it. But the time came to move along, and we headed north to Portland, Oregon. After searching for the right location to open our new restaurant/bar, we realized it was right in our front yard -- literally. So we designed and constructed a commercial building on the corner of NE 28th and Flanders, in front of our home.

Epif's food menu is unique because we take traditionally meat-centric South American dishes and make them 100% vegan (with many gluten free, nut free, soy free, and sugar free options). We serve bright, healthy, and balanced dishes utilizing local, organic ingredients when possible and focus on accents of fresh herbs and vegetable powders.  We are not a Chilean restaurant, we are not a Peruvian restaurant, we are not serving traditional dishes... We serve dishes inspired by the Andes region of South America, with our own twist!

Epif has the largest selection of Pisco in Portland. Our cocktail menu showcases original, unique craft Pisco cocktails, as well as the best Pisco Sours you'll find in town.  Additionally, we offer a full bar, local beers on tap, wine, and a selection of tasty mocktails (non-alcoholic cocktails).

In designing the building and interior, we took care to create a warm, inviting space full of color and unique details.  For instance: our bar top is made from skateboard remnants, the two-top tables are made from reclaimed gym bleachers, the four-top tables were brought from our restaurant in Chile, the banquette seating are re-purposed church pews, the antique front door was bought in Peru by Nicolle's parents when they lived there in the 1970s, and the large mural is entitled "Ivanna and the Cosmic Llama."  The building was built to accommodate a large Catalpa tree limb that intersects the roof and, in the Spring/Summer season, provides lovely shade for our outdoor seating.

We hope to see you soon!
