Coppin State Athletics Recognized for Academic Success at MEAC’s Annual Spring Meetings

| By:
NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State's athletic department was honored for its academic success during the MEAC's All-Sports Awards Dinner, hosted at the Disney Contemporary Resort and Convention Center last week, in partnership with Disney on the Yard, held in conjunction with the conference's annual spring meetings.

CSU posted the MEAC's highest academic progress rate (APR) and the department received a check for $10,000.  Additionally, the Eagles were recognized for the second-straight year as the MEAC's recipient of the Highest Graduation Success Rate (GSR). Coppin's 89-percent GSR spans the 2012-15 cohorts and it received a check for $25,000 from the conference.

"Graduating our student-athletes is our top priority and I am proud of the commitment they display in achieving athletic and academic success at the highest level," said Coppin State University Director of Athletics Derek Carter.  "The most recent Graduation Success Rate (GSR) and Academic Progress Rate (APR) shows their drive to be the best and is a testament to the support they receive from our coaches, faculty, and staff."

Disney on the Yard is an initiative established in 2020 to deepen The Walt Disney Company's existing engagement with HBCUs. The initiative also will help build a robust, long-term pipeline of Black talent through the development of student internships, mentorship opportunities, internal HBCU cultural series, virtual career showcases for students, and more.

Earlier this week, the MEAC released its 2023 Commissioner's All-Academic Team which honors sophomores to seniors with at least a 3.0 cumulative grade-point average.  Fifty-nine CSU student-athletes were recognized.
