The College’s Human Research Ethics Board (HREB) invites faculty to complete an Exempt Reviewer training and help facilitate student research in their courses for spring 2021.
Faculty who complete the training can receive and review research proposals directly from their students, rather than requiring students to submit proposals to the HREB Board for review. This gives faculty greater control over the timing, conduct and content of the review process for their courses.
Any faculty member whose students will be conducting research projects involving the collection of data from human participants, such as surveys or interviews, may be certified to review their students’ Exempt research projects by successfully completing HREB Exempt Reviewer training.
If you are a faculty member interested in attending the Exempt Review training for the spring 2021 semester, please contact the HREB at 257-3282 or hrebcoordinator@newpaltz.edu by Jan. 7, 2021, so we can find a time for the training that accommodates everyone.
The training program is a two-day, two-hour-per-day workshop. The HREB will be offering its spring 2021 training program via WebEx, and it will be led by Maryalice Citera, HREB chair and associate professor of psychology.
To qualify to review Exempt proposals for students in your courses, instructors must complete the training program, become familiar with federal regulations and research ethics principles, and feel comfortable applying them to student proposals.
Once certified, faculty will be able to receive, review, request changes and approve student research proposals through SUNY’s online Pre-Award and Compliance System (PACS).
